Briquette Project – project closed in April 2013.

The briquette project run by Wood U Waste is now closed, but during the 5 years it ran it evolved from an in-house Stroud District Council scheme to a national award-winning project.  Between 2008 and 2013 it gave away over 1,600  5kg packs of briquettes to the elderly and vulnerable of all ages in the Stroud District and sold approximately 1,800 packs. This means that over 17 metric tonnes of waste sawdust were saved from landfill during the lifetime of the project. Learn More

Education

Between 2008 and 2013 Wood U Waste  worked hard to reduce fuel poverty via education and practical training. This was done in a variety of ways including workshops, talks and a partnership with Transition Stroud called  ‘Draught-Busters’ to draught-proof the homes of vulnerable residents free of charge.

Donation

In the UK, a winter fuel payment of up to £300 is made to everyone over 60. From 2011 until 2013 Wood U Waste ran its Winter Fuel Payment Appeal to the benefit of four local charities in the Stroud area who all work to keep the elderly and vulnerable of all ages warm in the cold weather.  The Appeal, launched in October 2011, raised over £10,000 in the first two years and has now been taken over by The Marah Trust.
