‘Future Now’ project: encouraging the young to work for warmth.

Getting through the first round of the ‘Communities Living Sustainably’ bid makes the prospect of £1 million for the ‘Future Now’ project a real and exciting possibility.

Wood U Waste will be helping to write an active and practical training that we can deliver to schools to encourage young people to be useful and effective ‘workers for warmth’. The Working for Warmth training will equip students with practical skills to enable them to do simple energy checks in local homes. They will undertake activities such as

•    Encouraging people to save energy in their homes wherever possible and informing them of various energy saving tips
•    Checking the thickness and quality of loft insulation and sign-posting to local grant schemes if not sufficient
•    Helping homeowners to analyse energy bills and searching for the energy ‘Best Deals’ on the internet
•    Checking windows and doors for draughts and learning to apply draught-proofing strips effectively
•    Encouraging people to save energy in their homes wherever possible and informing them of various energy saving tips
•    Informing homeowners  about different kinds of insulation for cavity and solid walls
•    Giving simple advice about renewable technologies and how to find out more about them locally
