Draught-Busters

The draught-busters team consists of four local volunteers who are keen to reduce draughts in properties with wooden windows and doors. These are often older properties with original sashes and are expensive to replace with double glazed alternatives. The Draught-Busters use good quality draught-proofing strips and brushes to cut down draughts to a munimum and help to save energy and keep people more comfortable in their homes.

Part of the funding for ‘Draught-Busters’ allows the team to undertake draught proofing work for free to elderly and vulnerable homeowners who would not be able to install the measures themselves. We concentrate on windows and doors in the main living areas, helping to create ‘warm zones’ where the occupants can afford to heat a certain area to an adequate temperature for good health and well-being.

The draught-busting group will also be running a series of workshops in the stroud District area to educate and encourage homeowners to undertake draught proofing work themselves in their homes. After attending a workshop we hope that those attending will feel equipped with the skills to install the strips and they will have the opportunity to purchase materials at a reduced price.

The first workshop will be taking place at the Waldorf College on May 9th  2012. The students will be taught how to apply the strips onto wooden windows and doors and encouraged to apply their skills in their homes or those of their friends or family.

We will add further information about the workshops as they become available.
